My name is Kelly Carvalho and I’m collecting money for my boyfriend Mark Campaniello who works for the City of Norwalk as a mechanic. Mark had prostate surgery on 7/12 Mark continued to bleed and develop blood clots he was admitted to the hospital on Saturday, July 28 and he underwent emergency surgery on Monday, July 29.
Mark had an appointment with his urologist surgeon Dr. Christine Liaw on Thurs, 8/22 for his ongoing medical problems and it was deemed necessary that Mark needed to be scheduled for a third surgery. Mark recently underwent a third surgery on Friday, August 30. The surgeon has Mark home for 90 days recuperating.
- Mark two years ago had a surgery was told he could go back to work in five days, four days later Mark was developing internal bleeding. Was admitted to the hospital and had emergency surgery and was then out of work for two months. He exhausted all of his sick time at this point! He unfortunately hasn’t been able to be able to build up his sick time now every time he takes time off before he was always able to take sick time off for a doctors appointment for sick time going to appointments at the Pain Center, Neurosurgeon any other MD appointment he had scheduled. Mark has already had numerous ablations on his neck, lower back with no relief. He has had Trigger point injections- getting 25-30 injections each visit. He’s also tried ESI - Epidural Steroid Injections which very little relief. With Mark being a mechanic a lot of his neck, bilateral shoulder & bilateral arm pain down to bilateral wrist pain he has significant pain which is caused from 20 plus years of working as a mechanic performing repetitive motions using these body parts & and working in brutal conditions in the garage he works in.
In the winter time all of the garage doors
stay open making it absolutely frigid cold in
the garage. Starting in April
2024 the amount of pigeon feces from the
Pigeons nests in the garage has become
out of control. Mark had gone to a walk in
center twice and diagnosed with having
Pneumonia.
On 8/28/2024 Mark applied for
sick bank time which is donated by other
employees for other employees to use
when they need it. Mark received an email
from his union that he was denied being
granted any of the donated sick time.
Mark called his union and was told there is
only 800 hours left in the sick bank, but he
can’t have anything!!!! And also they told Mark
that’s he’s never donated any of his sick
time into the sick bank for others to use.
Mark said yes, I had a heart attack nine years ago. It was out for two weeks and later that same year I pulled my back out really bad and was out for the whole entire.
Summer was out for three months. It took me several years before I even rebuilt my sick time, then two years ago May 2022 I was supposed to have a simple urology procedure on a Wednesday. I was told I could return back to work the following Monday. Mark had post operative bleeding, we went to the emergency room on Sunday and he had emergency surgery the next day for postoperative internal bleeding. Mark was now required to stay out for 90 days . So I shouldn’t be penalized if he had sickness over the years and has everything documented and he has doctors notes for every time that he’s been out but yet now the one time when he need help for sick time so he can get paid & Mark has been a dedicated employee Mark is getting screwed because they’re given all the sick time to new employees who don’t deserve it that have only been there for five months because they don’t have the sick time yet to take off but yet the unions given it to these new kids that are brand new but they’re not giving it to a senior person like Mark, talk about discrimination.
