Help Mark Breathe Fresh Air Again!
Donation protected
Background: Many of you know Mark (or ‘Jeff’ to some) as a guy who would help anyone. Whether it was moving furniture, coaching little league, or helping with house projects. And, as most of you know- that came to a very sudden stop a few years ago. After leading a very active life, things for Mark changed suddenly in 2015. During a weekend getaway with his wife, Sue, Mark was hospitalized with difficulty breathing which later led to a diagnosis of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). He was then hospitalized again in April 2016 with similar symptoms. That May, he began pulmonary rehab which he has continued long past when insurance stopped covering it.
In 2018, Mark began thinking more seriously about double lung transplantation and had his first appointment to discuss options in February 2019. The following year, COVID put a halt on rehab and to his outside world. Mark was in the highest level of those at risk and many life changes had to be implemented immediately. He was also forced to leave his job of 40+ years when, despite his employer going above and beyond to make accommodations, his breathing issues became too much.
The needs:
-Meals: At this time, we are not able to accommodate a meal train as the recovery process is several weeks before Mark can go home.
-Financial Gifts: As you can imagine, healthcare in America is less than ideal. Due to the high costs associated with having the transplant (tests, procedures, medications, ICU stay, and 2-3 week in-hospital recovery time) and the after-transplant needs (expensive medication, rehab, 300+ Dr. appts within the first year), the price of a deep breath is astronomical. We are asking for any help to assist in taking some of the weight from this heavy burden. We truly appreciate any gifts towards this cause.
-The Gift of Time: As rehab progresses, Mark may be in need of a walking buddy or two as he rebuilds strength in both his legs and new set of lungs.
