Hi, my name is Mark Bonney—I’m a 19-year-old performer from Detroit, Michigan, and I’m currently pursuing my dream of becoming a professional actor, dancer, and vocalist at the Norwalk Conservatory of the Arts.

In 2021, everything changed for me. I was invited to perform at the opening of Ain’t Too Proud in Detroit and received a complimentary ticket to see the full production. That night, I watched a team of Black men sing, dance, and act with passion, talent, and energy that lit up the stage. For the first time, I saw myself in them—and I knew right then: That’s what I want to do.

Since then, I’ve thrown myself into the craft. I’ve been fortunate to perform across the country and around the world in venues and events such as:

✅ Carnegie Hall

✅ The D-23 Expo

✅ Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit

✅ A performance for President Barack Obama with The Kresge Foundation

In 2023, I won the Sutton Foster Award for Best Actor in a Michigan high school musical, which led to the honor of performing on Broadway at the Jimmy Awards.

While I’m fully committed to my education and my artistic journey, the reality is: training in the performing arts is expensive. I’m currently working two jobs to cover my tuition and living costs, but it’s not enough.
