Imagine being more than a thousand miles away from your parents. Now, imagine getting a call that they've been in an accident AND you're over a thousand miles away.
On February 1, that was my reality when I received a call that my parents were out riding their motorcycle when they were hit by a car. Talk about an instant panic attack, especially having to navigate all of this over a phone. We are extremely thankful for their helmets and their good sense to put them on. And after laying eyes on them (my parents and the helmets), via FaceTime, this clearly could have been so much worse.
Both my mom and dad were in bad shape and after an all day event, they were discharged. The less than 24 hour stay makes it seem like they made out pretty well, and compared to what could have been, they did. However, since the accident, both of my parents have been out of work, and we all know how quickly bills, hospital fees, and daily chores can stack up. My dad is unable to fully use his hands because of an injury sustained in the accident and my mom is patiently awaiting for about 30% of her body to heal from the damages.
While I wish I could make all of their worries disappear, I can't. My hopes in creating this is that I can help lessen the financial burden for my parents. We are all doing our best to remain positive during this time, as we know this is just another bump in the road. We are grateful for everyone that is able to help, even if you are only able to offer prayers or sharing amongst your family and friends.
