Mark Grantham is a well-known professional artist living and working in Nova Scotia. His partner, David Parker, former principal horn with Symphony Nova Scotia, is now also a self-employed artist.
On the evening of Saturday, September 6th, Mark & David were photographing the moon outside their home near Clementsport, Nova Scotia. Without warning or provocation, a stranger brutally attacked them and left them with life-threatening injuries.
Mark & David were rushed to hospital in Kentville and then transferred to hospital in Halifax due to the seriousness of their injuries. They both required surgeries to repair their severe facial injuries. Mark also sustained a fractured arm. David received serious head trauma and spent three days in the ICU. Mark was discharged to be cared for at home, but David remains in hospital.
They have begun what doctors expect will be a long and challenging road to recovery. While the suspect has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, it doesn't undo the trauma and damage inflicted on these two innocent people.
Mark and David will both require ongoing medical care, physical therapy, and dietary support. David will also require cognitive rehabilitation. They will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. And as anyone who is self-employed knows, when you can't work, the income stops immediately.
How You Can Help
The financial burden of this senseless attack is creating serious challenges during an already traumatic time. Your donation, no matter the size, will help cover:
• Physical therapy and rehabilitation expenses
• Any necessary dental treatment and reconstruction costs
• Travel and accommodation expenses for Mark to visit David, while in the Acquired Brain Injury Rehab program in Halifax
• Special dietary requirements
• Basic living expenses during their recovery
Mark and David never expected to find themselves in this situation and they're grateful for any support their community can provide as they focus on healing and rebuilding their lives after this devastating attack.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity during this difficult time.
With gratitude,
Monica Grantham & Jenn Ferguson (Mark's sisters)
