Help Mark & Kris Rebuild After Fire
This past week, my siblings and I closed the probate on our dad's estate. Our dad passed away over the new year. My brother, Mark, was the executor. And as such, Mark had a lot to deal with before getting a chance to take a breather and start the healing process from our dad's passing.
This morning (July 27) I got up and checked my email and phone messages. The news was on, and mentioned the Redding Carr fire. I sent my brother a text and asked how close and if they were okay.
He and his wife Kris and their kitty had been evacuated and were staying at Kris's parents home in Sacramento. Apparently there wasn't much time, as he told my sister in a text, "Firestorm."
And then, within the hour, I got the text, "It's confirmed that our house burned."
Mark and Kris have weathered a lot of things over the years, but nothing like having to start completely over. They are good people, hard working people. Solid working class folks who raised a great son now working in the medical field (out of state). They earned everything they built.
When I asked what they needed, it had not registered exactly how much is needed to start over. Mark said, "Everything." He meant it.
Imagine losing everything. And then imagine trying to piece it all back togehter. It seems insurmountable. But you start where you are, with the essentials and build from there.
I want to help my brother and his wife start over. I'm not asking to rebuild his house or replace the large items like a car. The insurance will take care of that, in time. I just want to get him started with the essentials.
Essentials like shoes, clothes, pots and pans, utensils for cooking and eating, towels, cat food, the things they need to return to work and a sense of normalcy as they dig out from the ashes.
I know many others in the Redding area are facing similar circumstances. If you know some of these folks, please support them. If you can help Mark & Kris out with a couple of dollars, I am forever grateful, and I know they will be.
If you would rather donate a physical item, like a pot or pan or socks, I can make arrangements for that to happen. Please message me directly.
Additional information:
Who am I? I am Terri Lloyd, a full time artist living and working in Los Angeles.
Mark and Kris are my brother and sister-in-law. We have another sister, Kathy Barthlomew, who lives in Redondo Beach.
The funds will be used for essentials, as mentioned above.
As funds are withdrawn, I will be sending a check in care of Mark & Kris via mail to where Kris works, since they do not have a permanent address at this time. Kris & Mark both work for the City of Redding.
A report will be provided within 60 days of closing the campaign.
