I am raising $4,500 for a remarkable community health worker (CHW) in Kenya, Mark Mwenda . Community health workers are community members who provide health education, at-home care, and support to households and individuals where they live, often for little or no pay. Mark is pursuing his Master's in Public Health (MPH) at Amref International University.
I have known Mark for two years. He first applied for and was selected as a CHW Ambassador, contributing to CHW Voices on CHW Central, for which I serve as technical manager. He now works as a technical officer for CHW Central. Mark is a remarkable human who has a deep dedication to serving his community and to improving human and environmental health.
Mark is starting the MPH program next week. He applied for a scholarship, which we thought he would certainly get, but he wasn't selected. He is paying for his first semester from his savings, but he doesn't have the funds to complete the program, which costs $6,000 and will take two years. Please join me in supporting Mark to further his education. I believe we need more people like Mark, who have on-the-ground experience and dedication to serving their own communities, in public health. Any amount you can contribute is much appreciated. I will be happy to provide updates on how Mark is doing from time to time for those that want them. THANK YOU!
Becky
