My good friend Maritza and her partner, Miguel, had to flee Venezuela to Peru last week with nothing. They must start their lives completely over due to the horrible conditions in Venezuela. Due to a corrupt government and mass inflation, people - including Maritza, Miguel and their families -- are starving and are not safe (see links below). Things are worsening by the day.
Maritza and Miguel are both extremely kind and hard working people. Both were very successful, but they had to abandon their houses and cross the border by land with nothing but a few suitcases. I am raising money to help them get re-established in Peru so that they can help their families - Maritza is the youngest of 10 and her mom is 93 and needs support (and hopefully can be brought here to Peru at some point).
This is also a very special pay it backwards for me, because I met Maritza when I studied abroad in Venezuela 23 years ago. After I had become friends with her nephew, she and her family took me in for a month, treated me like family, and with no thought of payment or even allowing me to pay for anything. I have never forgotten what they did for me and how kind they were. Now that she and her family are in dire straits, I want to do everything I can to help.
Please consider donating to her so that she and Miguel can meet their living expenses while getting settled, start their business and invest in materials (she is an amazing jewelry maker and sales person; he is a systems engineer), and send money to their family (and hopefully bring her mom over soon). I will be distributing the money in an account of mine that will be dedicated to this fund (plus my contribution to them) and will withdraw the money and give them the cash, as they do not have a US account.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for any help you can give to these amazing people. Anything that you can give would be very appreciated. If you want more information, please contact me.
Love,
Ellen
