Marita Hacker is an the elder, together with her Husband, Harold Dick, the spiritual advisors to the Apache Chiricahua people. They need our support, our prayers, and love right now. Let's gather together and give back the love this couple has fearlessly poured out into people lives giving them hope and care for as long as I can remember.
Marita's story in her own words:
At the end of October I decided to get the flu shot. I was working as a Hospice Chaplain and did not wish to wear a face mask when interacting with clients for obvious reasons. Three days later all hell broke loose in as far as my body was concerned. My immune system went into ultra defense mode and began attacking itself. For two months I dealt with a vicious case of diarrhea culminating in End Stage kidney failure and all concerned were waiting for me to leave this plane of existence. Fortunately that did not occur and I am still here. Unfortunately I am now in a place where I am utilizing a walker and a wheelchair as the muscles in my legs are affected, compromising my ability to walk. As a consequence I no longer am able to work. I have been involved with Hospice for almost 30 years. It is my passion. As a Chaplain the spiritual connection with each individual who has come across my path has contributed to who I have become as an individual. To me, all beings are spiritual and I relate to each of them on that premise. It has served me well to date. Although I am not Chiricahua (I am Dakota and Norwegian ) the descendants of the Chiricahua Nation voted me in as their Spiritual Advisor. I am also one of the few female Apostolic Bishops in the U.S. Now here I sit with titles that have meaning but am no longer employed.
What is going on:
Marita and Harold have used all of their savings to support themselves because of this. They have unpaid bills and yet Harold still holds sweat lodge for the people that come. His work on this planet has been teaching and sharing the sacred ways. He has worked with veterans with ptsd endlessly. I have seen them set aside an entire day of lodge for someone who needed help with only tobacco offered in exchange. Marita working is hospice care has been the person who works both with families and patients preparing them to transition to the other side.
Marita after several months of not being able to eat is now able to consume some liquids. She needs time to recover fully. She needs us.
How we can help:
I have never felt so passionately about supporting two people as I have as much as these two. Let's help preserve those who honor the path and walk with the wind with giving. Let's give fearlessly and what we can.
The time is now. The time is now to stand up for what is right on the planet and support those who often are unseen but make a huge impact.
