Hi, my name is Marisol, and I’m married to the love of my life, my best friend and soulmate. We live in Beeville, Texas. For years, my husband has been the rock of our family. He worked hard, loved to be outdoors and always willing to help a someone in need. Our lives were turned upside down recently when he was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer, an aggressive form of cancer that requires urgent and intensive treatment. Overnight, we went from planning our future to fighting for his life.
Learning that your spouse has small cell lung cancer is terrifying. Small cell cancer is fast‑growing and spreads quickly if not treated immediately. Within days of the diagnosis, we found ourselves meeting oncologists, undergoing endless tests and scheduling chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The doctors emphasized the importance of starting treatment right away to give him the best chance. We’ve already completed a round of chemotherapy this month, and he will need more chemotherapy, radiation and possibly immunotherapy in the months ahead. The side effects leave him weak and unable to work; he will go thorough things like loss of his hair, struggle with nausea and fatigue, and sometimes needs help just to walk to the bathroom.
Our insurance covers part of his care, but not nearly enough. We have deductibles, co-pays and coinsurance for every specialist appointment, scan and chemotherapy infusion. Many of the things that make it possible for him to be at home such as the hospital bed, wheelchair, walker, shower chair, oxygen supplies and the home modifications like grab bars and a ramp—are either only partially covered or not covered at all. We will have travel costs to the cancer center 185 miles away several times a week. I will be his full‑time caregiver, so our household income has dropped dramatically. We have always been thrifty, but our savings will disappear faster than we ever imagined. I never thought we’d be in a position to ask for help, but here we are.
I’ve set up this GoFundMe because I simply can’t cover the mounting medical bills and daily living expenses on my own. The money we raise will go directly toward necessities
To those of you who know my husband, you know he has always been the one giving. Now he needs help. We are humbled to ask for your support, whether through a donation or by sharing this page so that others might help. Even small contributions will make a big difference. Your generosity will allow us to focus on his healing without the constant fear of how we will pay the next bill.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reading our story, for donating if you can and for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. I will post updates here as we navigate this journey, because we want you to see the difference your kindness makes. Together, we believe we can give my husband the chance to recover and return to the life he loves.
