Well, I guess sometimes life’s obstacles come more than once in your lifetime, and recently it happened to be cancer that came unexpectedly. Last year, I fell at work and ended up messing up my spinal implant and wasn’t able to do an MRI until it was replaced. Finally, after 6 months, we had replacement surgery scheduled. But before I could have that done, I ended up in the ER on January 15th, 2026, in extreme pain, and they found a tumor on my right kidney. The emergency room asked for intervention within two weeks. I finally had my spinal implant replaced on January 23rd, 2026. Then they performed another CAT scan, and while looking at that, they found that another spot showed up in my liver also. My doctor told me, “Mario, don’t panic, it’s probably nothing, so don’t get nervous.” Again, he said it’s probably nothing. We are going to schedule an MRI of the kidney to see it better. We are not going to worry about the liver at this time; it’s too small. Again, he said, “Mario, it’s nothing, and you probably won’t hear from me. But let’s get the MRI and go from there.” So we wait, and over some mix-up with scheduling, the MRI gets delayed. March 13th, I got the MRI done. March 16th, my doctor calls me at work and lets me know that the MRI didn’t show fatty tissue cells, and he confirmed that it was cancer, and they want to schedule a biopsy ASAP to confirm. March 23rd rolled around, and they did the biopsy. Within another week or so, results came back and confirmed cancer, and it had grown and is continuing to grow outward, pushing out the right kidney. Doctors then decided we are going to perform a Right Robotic Partial Nephrectomy, possible radical, possible open with intraoperative ultrasound. On May 19th, they performed that. Everything looked good, and I was discharged on May 20th, around 24 hours later, and was given the OK to return to light duty back to work. Well, that was short-lived. On the 21st of May, around 11:00 am, I was rushed by ambulance. I lost a lot of blood, sweating badly, blood pressure 77/77, and temperature at 89 degrees. All I remember is the fireman picking me up, and I fell back to the floor. They saw all the blood and said, “Yeah, he’s going.” They couldn’t get any IVs started and rushed me to Mercy. They put me on the Bair Hugger to get my temperature up, got IVs started, and got vitals under control. They told me they were transporting me back to Northwestern by ambulance. Turns out I was internally bleeding from my kidney and had an infection possibly. So they, along with Mercy, gave multiple rounds of antibiotics and scheduled for an IR doctor to install coils to stop the bleeding. After a few long painful days in the hospital, another CAT scan, and we were scheduled at 8:30 am to perform. As I am being taken off my bed in my room and taken downstairs, they canceled and said it looks like it stopped bleeding. I stayed a few more days under pain management every 4 hours. May 26th, I was discharged yet again. May 27th, I went to see the Hepatology Dept for the liver, and we are now going to address the liver. I was out of work and barely healed from the spinal implant when all this took place and was only able to return for about two weeks and then have been off ever since. I have debated for several weeks about even doing this. I guess it’s a pride thing. All my friends telling me to do a GoFundMe. They kept telling me, “You always help people and never ask for anything in return, and maybe it’s time we help you.” I haven’t been able to work and haven’t been able to pay my health insurance premiums and many other things, and my bills are coming in faster than you know. Between my spinal implant surgery and kidney surgery, I have depleted all my funds. My bank account sits under $8.00 and no money coming in for a few months. It seems I need help. My brother and my sister-in-law have helped me more than you know. I just need help with paying my health insurance premiums, car insurance, gas, and a few other things. I have another battle coming up…
