Mario is my boyfriend and I am also his caregiver. In January 2019, his life changed forever when he was in a serious motorcycle accident that left him a T4 complete paraplegic. He has no movement or feeling, other than extreme nerve pain, from the chest down. Since the accident, he has faced a long road of health challenges, including a very serious bone infection. He now needs 7-8 weeks of IV antibiotics and surgery, followed by a week in the hospital and several months of bedrest while he heals. This has been incredibly tough on him, both physically and mentally, especially since he was always such an active person before the accident.

As Mario’s caregiver, I see every day how much this has affected his spirit. The long recovery ahead will be extremely difficult for him, and I want to do everything I can to support his mental and emotional well-being. Mario has always dreamed of having a Maine Coon cat, known for being affectionate and comforting. Unfortunately, with our limited income, we can’t make this happen on our own. I truly believe that having a Maine Coon as an emotional support animal would make a world of difference for Mario during this challenging time.
