Hi, I’m Marija Seglina, MSc student, and Emergency Care Assistant. I’m raising funds to help cover my university tuition so I can continue pursuing the career I’m deeply passionate about: helping others through healthcare and education.

Why I’m Asking for Support

The first year of university has been a struggle—especially financially. To focus on my studies, I’ve had to reduce the hours I usually work, which has made it challenging to keep up with tuition and living costs. I work as a contractor, so my hours are never guaranteed, and I often pick up extra shifts as an event medic or patient transport assistant to make ends meet.

During placement blocks, I’ve worked over 60 hours a week—balancing paid work, unpaid clinical placements, university lectures, assignments, and exams. It’s exhausting, but I’m committed to this path because I truly believe in making a difference.

I chose to go to university because I want to learn more, grow professionally, and help people in the most meaningful way possible. I don’t see myself doing anything else—this is my calling.

My Commitment to Community

Outside of work and study, I volunteer with the Army Cadet Force. I’m not only a Sergeant Instructor delivering parade night lessons, but I also support cadets through their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and serve as the Vocational Qualification Officer for my company. I even completed a Level 3 Teaching Qualification to better support and educate young cadets, because they deserve the best.

Above all, I’m a proud mum. My children mean the world to me, and I want to be present in their lives, as someone who’s there for the everyday moments that matter. Family is everything to me, and while I work hard to build a future for us, I also strive to create space for love, laughter, and connection. This journey isn’t just about my education—it’s about giving my children a strong, compassionate role model and a better tomorrow.

I also care for my elderly parents, providing emotional and practical support in the midst of my demanding schedule. And in the rare moments I get to myself, I recharge through dance classes and gym sessions, small joys that help me stay grounded.

What I Need

The total cost of my course for the upcoming academic year is £8,750. I receive a £5,000 NHS grant, which helps, but I still need to cover the remaining £3,750 myself.
