Our names are Carley and Katie and we are raising funds on behalf of our best friend Mariel.

This past August, Mariel and her husband Mike received the difficult news that Mariel had a significant brain tumour. Since then, life for them and their two young boys has been turned upside down.

Mariel underwent a very successful surgery and the entire tumour was removed. She has recovered surprisingly well and is back to her normal self. Unfortunately, the pathology report revealed that the tumour was indeed cancerous. Mariel is starting chemotherapy and radiation, along with other supportive treatments that will continue for the next year. Mariel is determined to do everything possible to have the very best long term outcome of this cancer and to live a long and healthy life.

We are grateful to live in a place where much of the medical care is covered. But the truth is that a diagnosis like this still brings financial pressures and costs that aren’t included in our healthcare system — things like supportive treatments, extra childcare, and the loss of income while Mariel and Mike focus on her health. These expenses add up quickly and can put a heavy strain on any family.

If you know Mariel, you know she is hilarious, kind, and endlessly caring, she's the kind of person who makes everyone around her feel lighter. Even now, she continues to show incredible courage. She is determined to face this battle head-on, and with our help, she won’t face it alone.
