Help Marie Sloan Adapt to Her New Life
Donation protected
My mother, Marie Sloan, has recently undergone her fair share of medical issues. It all started on Wednesday, August 28th, when she was rushed to OCH in Starkville with severe abdominal pain. Once there, they deemed that she was in Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) with protein in her urine and suffering from a perforated gastric ulcer, which needed emergency surgery. Surgery occurred at approximately midnight, and she was placed in ICU on the ventilator with vasopressors to help her BP stay up in a normal range.
The next morning, she was extubated and was able to tell the nurse that she was having severe pain in her right leg. Ultrasound revealed a right femoral clot and smaller clots around the right ankle. Between needing the Levophed (vasopressor) and the presence of the blood clots, she began to lose circulation completely in her right foot and partially in her right calf. By Saturday the 31st, her circulation was critical, requiring a transport to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS. Once there, they evaluated her leg in attempts to restore flow. An angiogram with declot was scheduled for Sunday with amputation if unable to restore flow. Sunday, September 1st, they were successfully able to restore flow to the thigh but had to amputate 4 inches above the foot. Tuesday, September 3rd, they took her back to surgery to complete the amputation as an Above the Knee Amputation. She currently has been moved to a regular room with no set date for discharge.
In order to prepare her home as handicap accessible, we are hoping to raise money in order to reimburse for the ramp that was built this week, to obtain funds for a concrete pad that she can park on and transfer to her car, purchase a covered parking area, and buy gravel to fix her driveway. Any funds that are leftover will go directly to buying gas for the winter for her heat and towards a prosthesis once ready.
