Just three weeks after being laid off from her job, our dear friend Marie Burnett received devastating news: She was diagnosed with Triple-Negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma—the same aggressive breast cancer that claimed her younger sister Tracy’s life.

Marie acted quickly to secure COBRA insurance at $700 per month to keep coverage, but even with insurance, her treatment at UNC Cancer Center will cost her approximately $16,000 out of pocket.

This treatment, which began on November 10th, 2025, includes 20 weeks of intense chemotherapy followed by aggressive surgeries.

Cancer doesn’t wait, and neither do the complications from chemo. After her fourth chemo infusion on December 1st, severe jaw pain led to a cracked tooth, requiring an emergency root canal on December 5th. Her oncology team has now paused her weekly chemotherapy until she heals—another painful setback in an already overwhelming fight.

As Marie’s neighbors and closest friends, her “Loop Group”, we’ve stepped in as her chefs and chauffeurs, bringing meals when she can eat and driving her to endless appointments. But the financial weight of this disease is crushing, and we can’t carry that part for her.

Every dollar you give goes directly to keeping Marie’s insurance active and covering her massive medical bills so she can focus on healing, not on how she’ll pay for survival. Our goal of $20,000 will go toward Marie's $16k out-of-pocket estimate, plus ongoing COBRA fees and unexpected costs.
