Help Marianna Buy a New Horn!

Hello! My name is Marianna Schwark, and I am a French Horn player graduating from the University of Georgia this spring with my Bachelor’s in Music Performance. Over the course of the past few months, I have applied to and auditioned at various universities (including the Manhattan School of Music, University of Michigan, Indiana University, University of Texas at Austin, and Western Michigan University) to pursue a Master’s in Horn Performance. After being accepted to all five schools, and being offered a total of over $300,000 in scholarship, I have decided to attend the University of Michigan starting in August 2025. (Go Blue!)

In July of 2024, I attended the 56th International Horn Symposium in Fort Collins, Colorado, where I met James and Cora Patterson, the incredible duo behind Patterson Hornworks. After talking with them and playing their demo horns, I decided to join the waitlist for a Patterson Geyer R2 Custom Horn. As I continue to make advancements in my education and professional career, it is past time to upgrade from my current student horn (Yamaha YHR-668NII). My goal is to play professionally full-time, and whether in an orchestra or a military band, playing on a professional-quality instrument will allow me to compete for these positions at high levels. The total cost of the horn (not including shipping or tax) is $15,295.00. I have already paid a $3,000.00 deposit, and am looking for ways to fundraise the remaining $12,295.00. To offset this, after the purchase, I am planning to sell my current horn for $4,000.00. It is also important to note that as I gear up to begin my Master’s this fall, I am in the process of budgeting for an apartment in Ann Arbor and saving for costs associated with graduate school.

Every donation, no matter the amount, helps me immensely. I understand the likelihood of having to take out a loan for this instrument, but any financial assistance brings me much closer to making this a reality.
