Hey, I’m Faariz, and my sister, Mariam, has had a brain tumor that she is planning to get removed soon. She is a class of 2020 graduate from the University of Houston, and sadly wasn’t able to have a graduation due to COVID. On the other hand, something good has entered her life throughout this tough time, her beautiful newborn daughter, my niece, Aaliyah. Mariam’s been my best friend my whole life and about two years ago, she had an incident at work which caused a cyst to rapidly grow into an epidermoid tumor. The tumor has grown very large and it’s really messing with her health and ability to take care of her daughter. It’s pressing her hippocampus, which affects her memory, which could potentially be completely wiped out, and display of emotions. The removal surgery’s super expensive on it’s own, and my sister not being able to work and having to take care of her daughter is making this more difficult than just financial struggles. Her husband, Rudy, being the only source of income in our home, has worked hard every single day to be able to support his wife and his daughter.
