Help Mariam summit Kilimanjaro
In 2008, at the age of 28, while pregnant and home with her infant son, Mariam Staford survived a vicious home invasion where intruders armed with machetes chopped off her arms and fled with them into the night. Her limbs were later sold on the black-market for witchcraft.
After a grueling recovery filled with surgeries and rehabilitation, she emerged with an unquenchable desire to affect positive change in the world.
Rising above her physical scars, Mariam has set an audacious goal for herself: to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in 2024.
This fundraiser about enabling Mariam to summit Kilimanjaro so she can become independent, support herself, build her business, summit Africa's tallest peak and transform her life.
We are a small group of volunteers that are working hard to support her and help uplift her so she can break her cycle of dependence and regain full autonomy.
Her training 4 day training expedition is being funded by Elia Saikaly. We need your help to help fund her summit attempt next October.
Beyond Mariam’s mission to inspire and advocate for individuals with albinism, her climb also represents a deeply personal journey toward independence, a dream she has long cherished.
Funds will be used for:
-Summit attempt in October 2024
-Living expenses
-Advanced vocational training so Mariam can adapt to trends
-Updated sewing equipment
-Needles, threads, additional equipment
-Investment in her business
-Social media support and training
-English tutor
-Psychological counselling
Your support goes a long way in making her dream come true.
