My name is Denny Anzola, and today I turn to the kindness of those who can help my cousin, whose story you will read below in her own words. She lives in Venezuela and is facing a difficult battle against cancer, a diagnosis that has profoundly changed her life and the lives of everyone around her.

We have decided to start this campaign in hopes of giving her the opportunity to receive the urgent medical care she needs, care that is impossible to obtain without outside support due to the limitations of our country’s healthcare system.

La lucha de María Teresa: Una batalla que comienza en el vientre

Mi nombre es María Teresa Estraño y te escribo desde Venezuela con el corazón abierto. Mi vida dio un vuelco drástico con un diagnóstico que, además de ser una sentencia, es excepcionalmente extraño: Adenocarcinoma de células claras ginecológico, moderadamente diferenciado.

Este cáncer es una patología muy agresiva que se originó a partir de una condición llamada adenosis vaginal de origen mülleriano, una anomalía que tuve desde mi gestación.

A pesar de haber luchado incansablemente durante años con cirugías y braquiterapia, no he logrado una remisión total. Los médicos han sido claros: es una enfermedad con altas probabilidades de recidiva y requiere una acción inmediata y contundente.

La esperanza: Un plan de sanación con inmunoterapia

Recientemente, una serie de estudios cruciales revelaron una mutación genética y una alta marcación del tumor para PD-L1. Esta información nos abre una puerta de esperanza con el plan de tratamiento más efectivo hasta ahora:

1. Inmunoterapia con Pembrolizumab (Keytruda 200 mg): 6 ciclos iniciales.

2. Quimioterapia: Con Gemzar.

3. Radioterapia: Junto con los ciclos iniciales.

4. Inmunoterapia Adicional: 4 ciclos extras de Keytruda como consolidación.

El Pembrolizumab (Keytruda) es el medicamento clave para frenar este tipo de tumor agresivo. Este tratamiento no es solo una opción, es la oportunidad real de sanación que he estado buscando.

La Realidad de los costos: Una cifra imposible de asumir sola

Vivo en Venezuela, donde el acceso a estos medicamentos de alta especialidad es increíblemente difícil y los costos son insostenibles para mí:

-Inmunoterapia (Keytruda): 2 ampollas por ciclo. Cada ampolla cuesta $4,825.

-Medicamentos de Quimioterapia: Gemzar, Palonosetrón, Eritropoyetina y Filgrastim. El costo asciende a $350 por ciclo.

Hemos puesto todo nuestro esfuerzo y recursos para costear los dos ciclos completos y la mitad del tercero. Sin embargo, la cuenta pendiente para completar el tratamiento es monumental. Necesitamos un total de $33,000 para completar el tratamiento.

My name is María Teresa Estraño, and I’m writing to you from Venezuela with an open heart. My life took a drastic turn with a diagnosis that is not only a death sentence but also exceptionally rare: moderately differentiated gynecological clear cell adenocarcinoma.

This cancer is a very aggressive pathology that originated from a condition called Müllerian vaginal adenosis, an anomaly I’ve had since gestation. Despite years of relentless fighting with surgeries and brachytherapy, I have not achieved complete remission. The doctors have been clear: this is a disease with a high probability of recurrence, and it requires immediate and decisive action.

The hope: A healing plan with immunotherapy

Recently, a series of critical studies revealed a genetic mutation and high PD-L1 tumor expression. This information opens a door of hope with the most effective treatment plan so far:

1. Immunotherapy with Pembrolizumab (Keytruda 200 mg): 6 initial cycles.

2. Chemotherapy: With Gemzar.
