My aunt, Maria De La Luz Loredo Vasquez, is a mother of four children: her oldest Santiago, along with Iker, Nati and Sophi who is still a 1-year old baby- all of them waiting for her to come home.

On Friday, April 10, Maria De La Luz Loredo Vasquez was detained by ICE early in the morning after a car accident while dropping off her children to school. She was taken to the Montgomery Processing Center.

El viernes 10 de abril, Maria De La Luz Loredo Vasquez fue detenida por ICE despues de un accidente automovilistico mientras dejaba a sus hijos en la escuela. Fue llevada al centro de procesamiento en Montgomery.

The very next day, Saturday, April 11, tragedy struck again—her teenage son Santiago was shot and rushed to the ICU, where he remains in critical condition fighting for his life.

Al día siguiente, sábado 11 de abril, ocurrió otra tragedia—su adolescente hijo Santiago fue baleado y llevado de emergencia al hospital, donde permanece en la unidad de cuidados intensivos (ICU) en estado crítico luchando por su vida.

This is not the first unimaginable loss Maria De La Luz Loredo Vasquez has faced. She previously lost a young son to cancer (2018 – 2020). No mother should have to endure that kind of pain—and now she is being kept away while another one of her children is fighting to survive.

On Monday, April 13, our family called the facility desperately trying to locate Maria De La Luz Loredo Vasquez . We were told something devastating—that she had already been deported to Mexico that same morning. We spent the entire day in panic and heartbreak, believing a mother had been taken away while her child was dying.

Nos dijeron algo devastador: que ya había sido deportada a México esa misma mañana. But on Tuesday, April 14, we discovered the truth.Maria De La Luz Loredo Vasquez was not deported yet .She had been transferred over 5 hours away to the El Valle Detention Facility in Raymondville, Texas.

We feel misled and devastated. A mother is being kept away from her child during the most critical moment of his life.
