Help Support Maria’s Recovery From Guillain-Barré Syndrome
In June of last year, my mom, Maria, experienced sudden numbness in her hand. We feared she was having a stroke and rushed her to the hospital. Within hours, the numbness progressed to complete paralysis, except for her ability to speak. She was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare autoimmune condition that attacks the nervous system.
Maria went from being fully independent to having no mobility, which has been extremely difficult for someone who has always taken care of everyone else. She spent six months in a neurology ward and another six months in a rehabilitation nursing facility, undergoing intensive physical and occupational therapy. She has made progress but has not regained full mobility and still needs assistance with most daily activities.
This has taken a major emotional and financial toll. Her children have been by her side from day one-staying overnight, spending weekends with her, and helping with bathing, feeding, and daily care. She became unable to work, lost her income, and many necessary therapy items and equipment were not covered by insurance and had to be paid out of pocket.
Maria is now at risk of losing her home, and we are asking for support to help stabilize her situation and ensure she can continue her recovery.
Funds will go toward:
• Housing costs to prevent loss of her home
• Ongoing physical and occupational therapy
• Medical and mobility equipment not covered by insurance
• Transportation to medical appointments
• Basic living needs while she is unable to work
Any support-whether through donating or sharing her page, will make a meaningful difference for Maria and our family.
Thank you for your support.
