Hi everyone
This is Maria, a good friend of mine, she needs our help!
I met Maria almost 20 years ago, (we were both rookies back then) we worked on a drum & bass project together, she was the vocalist. We've since worked together many times and spent many long nights in the studio, we naturally became great friends.
Maria has been suffering for a long time now with a reproductive disease, and although her health has continued to decline, she was consistently misdiagnosed by our National Health Service, she did not receive proper treatment early on. She finally got taken seriously in 2019 and got full diagnosis, but by that time her condition was so advanced she was told that she cannot carry a baby without treatment, this was pretty heartbreaking.
She's now at the stage where she needs major open abdominal surgery, she’s in daily pain and loses a lot of blood, it’s destroying her quality of life.
For the last 4 years she’s fought to get correct treatment and protect her fertility, sadly she’s been failed massively by the NHS again. At one point she wrote to her local politician for support on a treatment option, they challenged the NHS in support of her case, but she was still refused help.
Last year there was finally some hope, she found a specialist surgeon in London and got her GP to make the referral. Sadly though that surgeon died suddenly only a few months later before she got to meet him, he was only 46 years old. Seriously, what are the odds? She's now waited a year to be allocated a new consultant, only to be told that the surgeon assigned to her case is not able to carry out her surgery.
To get the procedure via the NHS now with the right specialist, she'd have to wait up to another year just for consultation. She doesn't feel she can wait and is worried she will end up in emergency care as this condition worsens. She’s understandably exhausted.
I want to help her!
She can get treatment privately and quickly but she needs our help towards the cost of surgery with a specialist gynecologist, someone highly experienced who can protect her fertility throughout.
If you know Maria, you know she’s fiercely independent and would typically never ask for help, she’s done this alone so far, but I think now, with our support, we'll reach that target quickly.
