Help Maria Follow Their Clay Dreams

Story

Hi friends, family, and community, My name is Maria, and I’m a queer artist who has recently fallen in love—with pottery. What started as a creative outlet one hot summer has quickly become a deep and necessary part of my self-expression, healing, and identity. I'm beyond thrilled to share that I’ve been offered a scholarship to attend a ceramics concentration program at Penland school of Craft this fall! This is a huge opportunity for me to develop my craft, connect with other artists, and immerse myself in the world of clay in ways I never imagined possible. But here’s the challenge: the program is intensive and full-time for two months, and to fully commit to it, I will have to step away from my job and other sources of income during that time. As someone who comes from a background where financial stability isn’t a given, I recognize that even being able to consider saying “yes” to this opportunity is a privilege—and it’s not one I take lightly. That’s why I’m turning to my community for support. What I’m Asking For I’m seeking to raise $10,000 to help cover: * Rent and basic living expenses for two months * Art supplies, materials, rest of tuition cost not covered by the scholarship * Transportation to and from the program * Emergency funds for unexpected needs during the program Every donation—no matter how small—brings me one step closer to making this dream a reality. If you can’t give financially, sharing this campaign with others would mean the world to me. Why This Matters As a queer person, finding spaces where I can feel safe, seen, and creatively free has been a journey. Pottery has offered me that space. It’s grounded me in my body, in the earth, and in a lineage of creation that feels both ancient and deeply personal. This opportunity isn’t just about art—it’s about growth, liberation, and investing in a future where queer joy and creativity are not only possible but prioritized. Thank you for reading, supporting, and believing in me. Your love and generosity help shape the vessel of this dream—one coil, one glaze, one kind word at a time. With gratitude and muddy hands, -maria

Hi friends, family, and community,
My name is Maria, and I’m a queer artist who has recently fallen in love—with pottery.

What I’m Asking For
I’m seeking to raise $10,000 to help cover:
* Rent and basic living expenses for two months
* Art supplies, materials, rest of tuition cost not covered by the scholarship
* Transportation to and from the program
* Emergency funds for unexpected needs during the program
Every donation—no matter how small—brings me one step closer to making this dream a reality. If you can’t give financially, sharing this campaign with others would mean the world to me.

Why This Matters
As a queer person, finding spaces where I can feel safe, seen, and creatively free has been a journey.

With gratitude and muddy hands,
