Maria is my 13-year-old cat and my best friend. Up until a week ago, she was completely healthy and never showed any signs of pain or discomfort. One day, as I was laying next to her, I noticed a big red-purple mass on one of her back legs. Concerned by its size, I took her to the vet the next day, where she was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. This is a malignant cancer that grows rapidly and has a high likelihood of spreading to other parts of the body, especially the lungs and lymph nodes. The recommended treatment is aggressive, possibly requiring surgery and even amputation of her limb, though more tests are being run to confirm the best course of action.

The costs for Maria’s treatment, medication, vet visits, and potential surgery are overwhelming. As a college student working two jobs, I am struggling to afford these expenses on my own. Despite the challenges, I am determined not to give up on Maria. She has been by my side through the hardest years of my life, helping me heal and giving me hope when I needed it most. Maria is not just a cat—she is my best friend, my soulmate, and the reason I am still here today.
