Help Maria Eugenia Fight Glioblastoma

Maria Eugenia Guzman is a loving mother, proud grandmother of four, devoted aunt, and future nurse with countless dreams and hopes. At 60 years old, she has spent her life caring for others. Most recently she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) detox nurse at an addictions facility, and last year she took a bold step toward her lifelong dream of becoming a Registered Nurse at Green River College.

If you know Maria, you know she’s the kind of person who lights up every room she walks into. She’s funny, outgoing, and the life of the party. She has always been there for her family, friends, and patients, offering kindness, comfort, and compassion without hesitation.

On Father’s Day, Maria was out celebrating with her son Joseph, his wife, and her four beloved grandchildren when she suddenly fainted at the restaurant. 911 was immediately called, and she was rushed to Valley Medical Hospital. Doctors quickly began running a series of tests to rule out a stroke or any other possible cause. An MRI was performed, and that’s when they discovered a large tumor in her brain.

Maria was admitted to the hospital, where she remained for a week under close monitoring and treatment. Eventually, the medical team determined that surgery was necessary. During the operation, they attempted to remove the tumor, but because of its size and location, they were unable to take most of it out. Instead, they removed a portion to send for biopsy.

The results came back as Glioblastoma, an aggressive and fast-growing form of brain cancer that invades healthy brain tissue and is extremely difficult to treat. It can cause symptoms such as headaches, memory loss, speech difficulties, and vision changes. Maria’s tumor was classified as stage 3–4, meaning it is advanced and requires immediate, intensive treatment. Doctors gave her a devastating prognosis of about one year to live, but Maria and her family believe with all their hearts that the Lord has the final say.

Maria immediately began treatment, starting both chemotherapy and radiation, and she is now in her third week. This battle came without warning and has turned her life upside down. She had to stop working, and with no income she is now struggling to cover even the basics such as rent, car payments, food, and the many medical costs not covered by insurance.

Maria is determined to keep living, experiencing life, helping people, and achieving her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. She is a tremendous asset to our community and a beloved pillar of our family. She has grandkids to see grow, loved ones to embrace, and so many more memories to make. Every donation, no matter the size, will help lift a tremendous weight off her shoulders so she can focus all her energy on fighting this disease and continuing to bring joy, care, and light to those around her.

Ayuda a María Eugenia a Luchar contra el Glioblastoma

María Eugenia Guzmán es una madre amorosa, orgullosa abuela de cuatro nietos, tía devota y futura enfermera con muchos sueños y esperanzas. A sus 60 años, ha dedicado su vida a cuidar de los demás. Recientemente trabajaba como Enfermera Práctica Licenciada (LPN) en un centro de desintoxicación para personas con adicciones, y el año pasado dio un paso valiente hacia su sueño de toda la vida: convertirse en Enfermera Registrada (RN) en Green River College.

Quienes conocen a María saben que es el tipo de persona que ilumina cualquier lugar al que llega. Es divertida, extrovertida y el alma de la fiesta. Siempre ha estado ahí para su familia, amigos y pacientes, ofreciendo amabilidad, consuelo y compasión sin dudarlo.

El Día del Padre, María estaba celebrando con su hijo Joseph, su esposa y sus cuatro queridos nietos cuando, de repente, se desmayó en el restaurante. Llamaron inmediatamente al 911 y fue trasladada de urgencia al Hospital Valley Medical. Los médicos rápidamente comenzaron a realizar varias pruebas para descartar un derrame cerebral u otras posibles causas. Le hicieron una resonancia magnética (MRI) y fue entonces cuando descubrieron un gran tumor en su cerebro.

María fue ingresada en el hospital, donde permaneció una semana bajo estricta supervisión y tratamiento. Finalmente, el equipo médico determinó que era necesario realizar una cirugía. Durante la operación intentaron extraer el tumor, pero debido a su tamaño y ubicación, no pudieron retirarlo en su mayor parte. En su lugar, tomaron una muestra para enviarla a biopsia.

El resultado fue Glioblastoma, una forma agresiva y de rápido crecimiento de cáncer cerebral que invade el tejido sano y es extremadamente difícil de tratar. Puede causar síntomas como dolores de cabeza, pérdida de memoria, problemas del habla y cambios en la visión. El tumor de María fue clasificado en etapa 3–4, lo que significa que está avanzado y requiere un tratamiento inmediato e intensivo. Los médicos le dieron un pronóstico devastador de aproximadamente un año de vida, pero María y su familia creen con todo su corazón que el Señor tiene la última palabra.

María comenzó de inmediato el tratamiento, iniciando quimioterapia y radioterapia, y actualmente se encuentra en su tercera semana. Esta batalla llegó sin previo aviso y le dio un vuelco total a su vida. Tuvo que dejar de trabajar y, sin ingresos, ahora lucha para cubrir lo más básico: alquiler, pagos de automóvil, comida y muchos gastos médicos que el seguro no cubre.

María está decidida a seguir viviendo, disfrutando la vida, ayudando a las personas y logrando su sueño de convertirse en Enfermera Registrada. Es un gran pilar para nuestra comunidad y una figura muy querida en nuestra familia. Tiene nietos a quienes ver crecer, seres queridos a quienes abrazar y muchos recuerdos más por crear. Cada donación, sin importar el monto, ayudará a aliviar una gran carga de sus hombros para que pueda dedicar toda su energía a luchar contra esta enfermedad y seguir llevando alegría, cuidado y luz a quienes la rodean.
