Our mom has cancer. Pancreatic Cancer. She is at stage one, which is miraculous and there seems to be so much hope but she needs to start chemo and stay home to fight, recover, and prepare for potential surgery.

Like so many people with family members diagnosed with cancer, we are preparing ourselves for a long and expensive battle. Unfortunately, our mom’s insurance does not cover all the medical costs for her treatment plan. Our dad has to cut down his work time significantly to help our mom navigate her appointments and stay as comfortable as possible through her chemo journey. My brother and I both work full-time jobs and will contribute as much as possible to keep our family afloat but at the end of the day, we need extra help. Our mom, Maria Camacho, is the best mom anyone could ever ask for. She’s kind, non-judgmental, caring, and overwhelmingly full of warmth that she can make anyone feel at home. She’s worked at Meggit Aerospace in McMinnville, OR for over 25 years and loves her co-workers and their frequent potlucks. She lives in a small house with her husband of over 30 years, Victor, and Bubbles the cat. She has one daughter and one son, Mayra and Adrian, and a huge extended family coming together to help her fight cancer. She looks forward to being well enough to travel to all the places she’s always wanted to visit like Vancouver, Canada, and The Redwood Forest. She also wants to be well enough to see her mom and family in Mexico again. And of course to continue to do the things she loves like thrifting, gardening, watching The Real Housewives, and spending time with her family.
