Hi everyone, we are raising money for Maria Azucena’s fight against ovarian cancer. She is in need of a costly surgery and we need your help to make it happen! Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated. Here is her story both in English and Spanish:
My name is María Azucena Quijada Chávez, I am 27 years old and I live in the city of Agua Prieta, Sonora, where I am originally from. I have been married for 1 year and 8 months and we have not yet been able to have a family because on March 6 of this year I had emergency surgery because they detected a type of tumor in my left ovary (oophorectomy). Having already had a history of Teratoma. The tumor was ordered to be analyzed and it showed a low-grade serous carcinoma, so my gynecologist decided to refer me to HIMES in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora. On May 28th was when I had the appointment, having the terrible diagnosis that I have cancer. It was decided to take another opinion and on June 10 of this year we found a recognized Oncologist with good references so that he could give me a second opinion. He requested some studies apart from those he already had to give his diagnosis and finish the procedure, evaluate, and determine what type of tumor it was and what stage it was in. A second biopsy was ordered to be performed in Mexico City and this showed us that my tumor is of a borderline type, so they cannot make any decision about any treatment at the moment because they don't know what the behavior of this type of tumor will be like! The next step is to perform a cancer staging (major surgery) on my body to see if it has not gone to other parts of my body (metastasis) and to be able to determine what stage I am in to be able to decide what would be the most appropriate treatment for me. So that same day I was diagnosed with Low Grade Serous (Borderline) Ovarian Cancer… At the moment we need $185 thousand pesos (approximately $10,000 plus other medical expenses) so that the surgery can be performed and that I can be given another hope and a better quality of life... Surgery has to be done as soon as possible to try to stop this disease and not allow it to progress to more malignancy. Mi nombre es María Azucena Quijada Chávez tengo 27 años y vivo en la cuidad de Agua Prieta, Sonora de dónde soy originaria; tengo 1 año 8 meses de casada y aún no hemos podido tener familia debido a que el día 06 de marzo del presente año me operaron de urgencia por que me detectaron una clase de tumoracion en mi ovario izquierdo (ooforectomía) teniendo ya antecedentes de Teratomas; se mando analizar el tumor y este arrojo un carcinoma seroso de bajo grado, por lo cuál mi ginecólogo optó por que se me refiriera al HIMES en la cuidad de Hermosillo, Sonora El día 28 de mayo fue cuándo tuve la cita, teniendo el terrible diagnóstico que tengo cancer; se optó por tomar otra opinión y el día 10 de Junio de este año encontramos a un Oncólogo reconocido con buenas referencias para que me pudiera dar una segunda opinión, el me solícito algunos estudios aparte de los que ya tenía para dar su diagnóstico y terminar de evaluar y determinar que tipo de tumor era y en que etapa estaba, se mando a realizar una segunda biopsia a la Cuidad de México y esta nos arrojo que mi tumoracion es de tipo Limítrofe, por lo que no pueden tomar ninguna decisión acerca de algún tratamiento por el momento por que no saben como sera el comportamiento de este tipo de tumoracion! El siguiente paso es realizar una estatificación de cancer (cirugía mayor) en mi cuerpo para ver si no se ha ido a otras partes de mi cuerpo (metástasis) y poder determinar en que etapa me encuentro para poder decidir cuál sería el tratamiento más adecuado para mi. Así que ese mismo día fui diagnosticada por Cáncer de ovario (Limítrofe) seroso de bajo grado… Por el momento necesitamos $185 mil pesos para que se pueda realizar la cirugía y que se me pueda dar otra esperanza y mejor calidad de vida… La cirugía tiene que ser en cuánto antes para intentar detener esta enfermedad y no permitir que avance a más malignidad.
