Margot's Story
In September 2025, I welcomed a 3-year-old white and cream French Bulldog into my home. I renamed her Margot — she had been surrendered and her previous breeders had been ordered by the Hume City Council to cease breeding. I don't know how many litters she had before me, but I do know she had never truly been cared for.
When I first met her, I noticed something wasn't quite right. She had a permanent tilt to her head to the right, her pupils were uneven, and she had some vision and hearing impairment. Despite all of this, she was — and still is — absolutely lovely.
Because I already have a male French Bulldog at home, I had Margot spayed promptly. I also signed her up for pet insurance, hopeful that her future would be protected. Sadly, I was later informed that her pre-existing conditions would not be covered.
The Diagnosis
After specialist consultations, an MRI, and an ear flush procedure under general anaesthetic at the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre, Margot's conditions were formally diagnosed:
Congenital stenosis of the right external ear canal (severely narrowed ear canal from birth)
Chronic otitis externa and media (ongoing ear infections in both ears)
A benign mass behind her right ear drum — inaccessible without major surgery
Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) — a breathing condition common in Frenchies that was never treated during her breeding years
Her continual breeding had taken precedence over her health for years, and none of these issues were ever addressed.
What She Needs
Margot requires two procedures:
1. TECA (Total Ear Canal Ablation) — a surgery to remove the diseased ear canal and the mass behind her ear drum. Without it, she risks abscess, ongoing pain, seizures, and further deterioration.
2. BOAS Surgery — to open her airways and allow her to breathe properly.
Combined, these two procedures are estimated at $9,000. I have already spent over $3,100 on diagnostics and initial treatment, which I paid out of pocket.
Why I'm Asking for Help
I am not asking for the full amount. I am only asking for what you are able to give.
Margot deserves a peaceful, pain-free, and loved life. She came to me already having been let down by the world, and I refuse to let her down too. Every dollar raised goes directly toward giving this beautiful girl the medical care she has always deserved.
The specialist notes and receipts from Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre are available for anyone who would like to review them.
From the bottom of my heart — thank you for your kindness.
