Help Margot Heal After Hit-and-Run
Donation protected
On February 6th, while Sydney and I were out of town, our sweet girl, Margot, was victim of a hit-and-run on 6th Ave in Park Slope while out walking with her sitter. Thankfully her sitter is safe, and kind neighbors who witnessed the incident were able to help them get to a nearby emergency vet where she was immediately put into treatment to check for injuries.
Miraculously, Margot was spared any internal bleeding or organ damage from the impact, but she has suffered a severe break to her left front leg. She spent 2 nights in the ICU, receiving X-rays, ultrasounds, testing, attendance and ultimately surgery to repair the fracture in her leg with a metal plate and screws. We feel so incredibly lucky that Margot survived this accident, and are so grateful for how our community has already showed up for us as we work to ensure Margot’s comfort and happiness in recovery.
I adopted Margot through Muddy Paws rescue in the summer of 2021. Since we first met, our lives have been so deeply lived together as a family. Margot brings us so much joy, adventure, and love. We have enjoyed many hikes, beach trips, picnics, road trips, and family moments together in NYC, St. Louis, Charleston, and Asheville, and are so grateful that we are lucky enough to get to continue to live our lives with her. Her wellbeing is our total priority.
If you’ve met Margot you inevitably love and are loved by Margot. She makes friends with truly everyone she meets — if you make eye contact with her in the street she can’t help but wiggle and wag right up to you to say hello. When she senses her friends coming up the street to our apartment, she waits by the door for them to arrive. She is an avid squirrel hunter of Prospect Park, and a dedicated Fort Greene sniffer. Her toe hair is unrivaled. Every day she makes us laugh and we are so lucky to have her by our sides for endless long walks, snaps, spins, games of toss, sunshine naps and love. She’s my best friend in the world and words cannot properly express my love for her and our relief that she’s OK.
Any support in easing the significant financial stress of this nightmare situation is greatly appreciated — donations will go to her initial emergency vet visit and surgery as well as the upcoming bandage changes, followups, and x-rays as she heals over the next 8 weeks or so. The estimate we have been given so far is between $9,641.47 and $11,425.12 for her initial hospital stay and surgery, not including future medical costs. If If donations exceed our bills, they will be donated to Muddy Paws Rescue. Thank you to everyone for the support received so far. If there are any questions on Margot’s bills, recovery, or this gofundme, please message either of us at @Natalie_fabbri or @syd.crews on instagram.
