Hi! My name is Margo Donahue and I recently had the honor of being selected to represent Team USA at the U24 World Championship in London in July. I have been dreaming of playing on the world stage since I started playing Ultimate Frisbee and I could not be more grateful for this opportunity. However, this opportunity also comes with a pretty big price tag that’s why I’m asking for your help to help me make this dream a reality.
The approximate cost per player for the World Championships will range from $3,985-4,885 so I have set my fundraising goal at $4000
Here’s a little bit about me:
I started playing Ultimate in 2015 on the first iteration of Belly of the Beast (a U17 girls team that competed at the Youth Club Championships in Minnesota). This was the first time they had a U17 girls division at this event and I feel so lucky to be part of that history. I then took a hiatus from Ultimate to pursue cross country, track, and soccer, but was back in 2018 and 2019 playing with Happy Cows (a U20 mixed team) at YCCs. College rolled around and I instantly fell in love with Ultimate at UC Davis. The last 4 years have been magical playing on Rogue and being part of a community that values working hard, playing for each other, and playing with joy. The last two years I have also played with San Francisco Polar Bears, which is an elite mixed club team, and I look forward to playing more with them post college.
Aside from frisbee, I am a student at UC Davis double majoring in philosophy and psychology. I am passionate about teaching and have gotten opportunities to work in Sacramento teaching neuroscience to high schoolers, working in a preschool, and doing behavioral therapy with young kids on the Autism Spectrum. After college, I plan to pursue teaching and am excited to work as a Teach for America corps member in Richmond, CA as a special education teacher.
Ultimate has given me so much and I am honored and proud to represent this sport, the community, and my country on the world stage. Ultimate has delivered my closest friends, my most precious memories, and has taught me important life lessons. One of the unique beauties of Ultimate is that all games are self officiated. This aspect has taught me the importance of being fair minded and calm while also being confident and able to advocate and articulate my perspective in the heat of battle. It has also taught me the importance of perseverance, resilience, and relentlessness. Without Ultimate and the community that surrounds it, I would not be the person I am today.
I also want to thank the people, and communities, who without them I would not be here today:
First I want to thank the bay area frisbee community where I first fell in love with this sport, made my first frisbee friends, and taught me what it meant to uphold the spirit of the game. I also want to give a HUGE thank you to all my coaches over the years who have believed in me every step of the way (even when I first started playing frisbee and I was running around like a headless chicken on ice skates). I want to thank all my teammates and the friends I’ve made along the way (cows, rogue, and bears). They have shown me how special the frisbee community is and inspire me every day to work harder and be a better person and player. I also want to thank my friends outside of the frisbee world who support me even when they don’t know a single thing about the sport. Most importantly I want to thank my parents who were my first coaches and my biggest role models, my siblings who were my first teammates, but more often my first opponents, and my whole family who are my biggest (and easily my loudest) supporters.
Donations of any amount are welcome and very very appreciated. And even if you are not able to donate, sharing this page would still mean so much to me! I appreciate your well wishes and support!
Thank you,
Margo
