Help Margene Eldred (Gill) beat breast cancer!

Donation protected
I want to tell you a little bit about my friend Margene Eldred (Gill).

She is 41-years-old with 4 young adult children and an 11-year-old son and 11-year-old step-daughter as well as a 5-year-old granddaughter.  Her friends and family love her and when/if you get the chance to meet her, you will instantly be her friend and realize why we all love her.   She has worked hard her whole life and for the past 15-years she has been a most valued LNA at CVMC where she has been recognized for her hard work and clinical excellence by receiving the Rose Black Award and she has gained the love and admiration from her many co-workers and supervisor's.  She is loved deeply by not only her children, but her husband Walter whom she first met while they were in high school.  They both went their separate ways, but destiny and true love brought them back together and they were married on October 2, 2013.  They are best friends and have built a wonderful life together and are looking forward to their future!

Margene has a very strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer.  When her mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year, Margene and her siblings  underwent genetic testing to determine if they carried the BRCA  mutation gene(s), which is a familial genetic mutation that increases your risk of getting breast and or ovarian cancer by 55-65%.  Unfortunately, she tested positive for  BRCA 1 and she immediately had a prophylactic total hysterectomy to prevent ovarian cancer and would have close frequent monitoring with mammograms and MRI's for breast cancer until she decided to have a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy.  At her first MRI last month, they found a suspicious mass and it was biopsied several days later.  She got the phone call with results after working the night shift the night before and she was told, "you have breast cancer."  As you can imagine, her world has been turned upside down in a very short time.  She was diagnosed with triple negative invasive breast cancer.  A very aggressive and difficult to treat breast cancer that is common with the BRCA 1 mutation.  She will need to have a double mastectomy then a minimum of 12 weeks of chemotherapy followed up by breast reconstruction surgery.  She will need to be out of work anywhere from 6-12 months and to ensure that she has the time she needs to fully heal from the surgery, fight the cancer with the chemo and then recover from yet another surgery after that, we as her friends are asking that you donate anything you can to help her and her family.  She has dedicated her life to helping others and I'm asking you now to help this wonderful young woman, mother,  wife,  friend and a healthcare hero!

I will provide updates as Margene begins her journey and healing and thank each and everyone of you for reading her story and helping any way you can.

We love you Margene!!  You will beat this!
