Hi everyone,
Three days ago, I met Margaret, a gentle pigeon whose story truly broke my heart. She had been trapped for several days inside a residential building with no food or water. When I found her, one of her wings was drooping — she could only walk but couldn’t fly. The wing felt swollen and possibly fractured, and her big beak and calm eyes told me she was an older bird who had already been through a lot.
On the first day after her rescue, Margaret was terrified — she wouldn’t eat or drink, and just sat quietly in the corner. I knew she needed urgent help, so I took her to Dr. Nat at Campsie Vet. After an X-ray under anesthesia, we discovered her elbow was broken, most likely from a strong collision.
Right now, she has only a 50% chance of ever flying again. But I want to give her that chance. She deserves it.
Margaret’s wing is now bandaged, and she receives medication twice a day. I’m keeping her movement minimal so the bone can heal properly. In two weeks, she’ll return for a follow-up check and, if recovery looks good, she’ll begin gentle physiotherapy to help her rebuild strength and, hopefully, fly again.
Yesterday’s vet bill came to $479.20, and there will be more costs ahead for follow-up visits and rehabilitation.
I’m reaching out with this fundraiser because I want to keep helping pigeons like Margaret — innocent souls who often go unnoticed but feel pain and fear just like we do.
If you can spare even a small donation, it would mean the world to me — and to Margaret. Your kindness can help her heal and, with a bit of luck, return to the sky where she belongs.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story. With your support, I hope Margaret’s story will have a happy ending — one where she can fly freely again.
With gratitude,
Jiqing
