Help Margaret Peters Regain Mobility and Health
Donation protected
Hello friends-
(This is Natalie writing this) My Mom, Margaret Peters is very loved- many of us know her as a friendly, cheerful and kind person who is willing to give and serve. She has had a rough year and has been in pain in her back/rib area noticeably since December.
She started out thinking it was a minor, temporary issue and had several chiropractic visits, but when the pain continued, she went to a back specialist who discovered fractures in her vertebrae and she had kyphoplasty done. But after the pain increased as her mobility plummeted, (along with having many other complications), she ended up in the hospital where she learned she has high-risk blood cancer that affects the stability of the bones- Multiple Myeloma. (She has many lesions, “holes” or tiny fractures on her ribs, vertebrae and sternum.)
She also had three extended family members pass away during this time (including her cousin that was her lifelong best friend), and experienced a lot of grief on top of her growing health concerns. She has tried to stay positive but the constant pain is wearing on her greatly.
She is currently undergoing her initial doses of Chemo and Radiation at LDS Hospital. It is currently extremely painful for her to move so she has to go very slowly, and it is very hard for her to walk even using her walker, raise her arms, do daily tasks, etc. Although she has been told that recovery may be possible, it will be a long journey with upkeep treatments needed throughout her lifetime. She has been determined to learn to work around her difficulties, giving all she can in her physical therapy sessions.
She is scheduled to leave the hospital soon… however, it is looking like skilled nursing facilities are not an option, nor is much home-health covered- so family members are working to create a safe space for her to recover. We will need funds to hire out ongoing skilled nursing care regularly at the home until she can move better (it is difficult, not to mention risky to move her at this time.) Some medical equipment is needed right away as well as safety ramps etc. and we also hope to soon get a stair lift installed so she can eventually go back home. I know there will be more expenses we have not even considered yet, and her medical bills will likely be huge when they come in.
Please donate towards Margaret’s solutions and care as she works towards getting back her movement and quality of life, and please share and ask friends and family to consider donating as well. Every $5 helps and is SO appreciated. Thank you so much for your generous donations, and for giving back to this woman who has given so much and showed up time and time again for others in the ways she knew how.
Note: The funds will be handled by Margaret’s daughter Katie who lives with her. You may also Venmo Katie Peters at @Katie-Sitta or if you have cash donations, they can be contributed through daughters Katie, Julie, or Natalie. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
