Help Margaret Make an EP!

I’m Margaret. I started writing songs ten years ago as a folk-obsessed teenager on my mom’s ’88 Martin. Like everyone else who writes songs, they’re my way of trying to wrap my mind around what we’re all doing here on this planet.

When I came to the Shoals in 2018 I had no dreams of performing or recording my music, but in the last couple years I finally mustered up the courage to start sharing my songs with folks here in Florence and have been absolutely overwhelmed by the enthusiastic and kind response I’ve received. The generosity of my community is like nothing I’ve found anywhere else. That same generosity leads me to write these words and ask y’all what I’m about to ask.

So here it is. Me and Austin Motlow have got it into our heads to record some of my original songs and make an EP. Y’all know as well as we do that making music costs money. That’s mostly because there are so many phenomenally talented musicians around here and we want to involve all the folks we can and make it worth their while. So if you’ve heard my songs and you’d like to hear them again but better (!!) I’d be thrilled to have your help in making this project happen.

The money we raise through this fundraiser will allow us to book studio time, hire musicians and mix and master the project. Our hope is to record these songs this summer before I leave to begin grad school in the fall. Y’all know how much I love my city and you can imagine how sad I’ll be to leave it. It would mean so much to me to make this EP a reality and be able to leave it behind so y’all don’t forget about me while I’m gone.
