On August 6, 2025, my wonderful mother-in-law, Margaret, underwent what was supposed to be a straightforward surgery to remove the lower lobe of her lung to treat lung cancer. What doctors hoped would be the “easiest option” turned into a long, complicated battle.
During surgery, doctors faced unexpected challenges: difficulty getting her sedated for surgery, adhesions attaching her lung to her ribs, and a longer, more dangerous procedure than planned. Since then, she has endured multiple complications—chest tubes, infections, atrial fibrillation, a second surgery to remove infection, weakness, anxiety, tremors, stress, pneumonia, and temporary blindness.
Margaret even spent her September 4th birthday in the hospital. When Medicare coverage changed, new deductibles and unexpected expenses piled up, adding financial stress to an already heartbreaking situation.
My wife, Brittani, and Margaret’s husband, Dan, have rotated days and nights at the hospital—often sleeping on a small plastic couch and surviving on hospital food—while trying to keep hope alive. Through it all, Margaret continues to fight with incredible courage.
Margaret’s support team is small but mighty. She has a wonderful son, CJ, who is there when he can be. Two daughters in law, who are holding down the households of her children and coming as much as they can be. Siblings, her stepfather and friends have stopped by to bring light, prayer and healing words to her. She is loved so much.
Margaret and her husband live on a very limited income, and this crisis has brought overwhelming costs. We are not people who normally ask for help, but this fight has shown us how much community matters.
Your donation will help with:
Out-of-pocket medical costs and deductibles
Travel expenses for family staying near the hospital
Daily needs like food, coffee, and basic comforts for her caregivers
Even the smallest gift—whether it’s the cost of a cup of coffee or a meal—eases the burden on this loving family so they can focus on what truly matters: helping Margaret heal.
If you can’t give, please consider sharing this fundraiser. Every gesture of support means the world to us.
Thank you so much for your continued prayers for her healing and recovery.
