Give Mardell a Well-Deserved Break (And a Bag of Ice!)

Meet my friend Mardell. At 61 years young, Mardell is one of the hardest-working people I know. For the past six years, I’ve watched him hustle seven days a week as a full-time grocery and food delivery driver. Whether it’s rain, shine, or a flight of icy stairs, he’s there making sure your delivery is on time.

Today, Mardell shared a video with me from an earlier delivery.

Let’s just say gravity won this round. A spectacular trip and fall on a customer's porch. In true Mardell fashion, he didn't want medical attention or a fuss — he just wanted to share the video with me so we could have a good laugh together.

But here is the thing about Mardell: After picking himself up he got right back to work. No sitting down, no catching his breath—just straight back to the deliveries.

While he’s laughing it off and claiming he’s "just fine," we all know that at 61, a fall like that leaves a mark. Unfortunately, like so many seniors in America, Mardell lives paycheck to paycheck. There is no such thing as "paid time off" in the delivery world.

He is back on the road today because he has to be, not because he should be. He deserves the chance to rest his joints and recover from that tumble without the stress of missing a paycheck.

The Goal

I want to raise enough funds to allow Mardell to hang up the keys for one to two weeks.

I want him to be able to stay home, put his feet up, and recover without the crushing weight of financial consequences. He spends his life delivering to others; it’s time we deliver something back to him.
