Help Marcy Heal: Double Mastectomy Recovery

Hi, my name is Marcy Patten and I have been encouraged by friends and family to start a GoFund Me so they can help while I am down with breast cancer treatment. I was first diagnosed 11 years ago and underwent a lumpectomy and six weeks of radiation equaling 30 treatments.

I recently had surgery in August for a lipoma tumor on my left chest wall and at the same time a surgical biopsy of my right breast. 2 1/2 weeks later, I was in surgery again for a large hematoma (blood clot) on my left chest wall. Samples were sent to pathology and I was recently diagnosed again with the same type of breast cancer in the same breast that I had in 2013. It is an invasive and aggressive estrogen, feeding cancer.

We were going to try radiation again, but my radiology oncologist said that the treatments and the side effects would be really hard since I had already had radiation treatment. Since my cancer came back a second time there was no guarantee that it wouldn’t come back a third.

So now I will be undergoing a bilateral double mastectomy on November 5th. I will be out of work for eight weeks and finances will be incredibly tight. I will have a bit of short-term disability that will help with some expenses, but it will not cover all. All of my PTO has been used up from the other surgeries. My last paycheck will be November 7 and I will not have another until January 21. Along with the medical issues our van is in need of repairs as well. What’s the saying “when it rains it pours”?

I have a strong faith in the Lord and I know He takes care of us! I appreciate the prayers and support more than you know. It feels strange asking for help, but I am being obedient to provide a tool for giving so God can bless others. I do not want to rob anyone of a blessing.
