Dear friends, neighbors, and strangers,
My name is Marcia. I'm a PhD student and Puerto Rican artist from Chicago. My area of study is art, performance, Caribbean and Latin America, Afro-Indigenous and Afro-syncretic religions and decoloniality.
I have been featured most recently in PR (Puerto Rico) Art News and shown my work in exhibitions in London and Barcelona. I love my work; I focus primarily on the diasporic Puerto Rican experience, I have created artworks and participated in events such as "Women, art and colonial memory in Africa" and "Colo(m)ialismes Heritage and colonial memory in Barcelona".
As I work to complete my program, I realize I cannot work any kind of “regular” job. Since I am trained as and enjoy working as a photographer, I intend to freelance to sustain myself as I study. These last couple of months have been particularly difficult as I’ve tried to maintain.
I need assistance to pay for my housing, as well as money to finance the equipment that will enable me to properly launch my freelance photography business.
I’m asking for enough money to cover my personal and business needs over the next 6 months. That breaks down as follows:
$4000 for all housing needs until I graduate
$2000 for work related needs
With your help, I can take care of myself and maintain the stability I have built for myself thus far.
