Dear friends and family,
I am writing this to ask for your help in supporting my amazing sister, Maricela "Marci" Gonzalez.
On January 17th, 2023, Marci was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). As anyone could imagine, this diagnosis was devastating to the entire family. It turned Marci’s life upside down as well as the lives of her husband Lorenzo, daughter Monique, son Peter and her grandchildren.
Anyone that knows Marci, knows that she is one of the toughest and most strong-willed persons you’ve ever met. She has shown incredible strength and resilience in the face of this difficult challenge. While her strength is admirable, her compassion and kindness for others are even greater. Marci is the matriarch of our family; she loves her family and friends. She would go to great lengths to help anyone in need.
Marci is the hardest working person I know, as with anything in her life, she has been dedicated to her job for over 24 years. Even after she was diagnosed in January 2023, Marci continued to work until she absolutely couldn’t anymore. Due to the fragility of her condition, her doctors have instructed her to stop working to avoid further compromising her immune system.
Marci has just completed her 8th cycle of chemotherapy; she has 4 more chemo treatments to go for her first round of chemotherapy. Following the completion of the 12 cycles of chemotherapy she will start a second round of intensive chemotherapy and immunotherapy which will continue for an additional 3 months. After a rest period, Marci will undergo mastectomy surgery, immunotherapy and radiation to follow thereafter.
With your support, we can help Marci focus on fighting this disease and help alleviate some of the financial burdens of all the medical bills.
About Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC):
TNBC accounts for about 10 to 15% of all breast cancers in the United States. The term triple-negative breast cancer refers to the fact that the cancer cells don't have estrogen or progesterone receptors and also don't make any or too much of the protein called HER2. It is an aggressive, fast-growing cancer that has significantly poorer outcomes than other types of breast cancers.
Marci faces a long battle; she needs our help to fight this terrible disease.
Thank you for all your prayers and positive thoughts, and for taking the time to read this.
