I am Marcela De Souza, a first-generation college student at Suffolk University, double majoring in Criminal Justice and Spanish, and passionate about helping others.

As a first-generation immigrant, I want to connect and help my community. From a diverse background myself, I am passionate about connecting with people from diverse backgrounds. Being fluent in three languages has allowed me to connect and explore opportunities. My mission is to instill hope and empowerment in marginalized communities to reflect my empathy and dedication to creating a more equitable society.

In the summer of 2026, I’ll be traveling to Panama on an Alternative Break trip focused on environmental and racial justice service work. We’ll be partnering with community organizations to learn, support ongoing projects, and contribute meaningfully to local initiatives!

My values and skills are deeply ingrained in my passion for making a positive impact and striving for transformative justice. From this trip, I hope to gain international knowledge to apply to helping my community. Focusing on transformative justice and working towards a better future for everybody is what moves me.
