Help Marc-André Fight Leukemia and Support His Family
On June 24, our friend Marc-André heard the words no one ever expects: “You have leukemia.” After feeling unwell and heading to the hospital just a few days earlier, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). More testing is still needed to determine the exact type—but what’s certain is that treatment has to start immediately.
Marc is now in Thunder Bay, four hours from home, and will need to stay there for several weeks for intensive chemotherapy. He won’t be able to return home until the initial phase of treatment is complete.
This has turned life upside down for his family.
Marc had just started a new job and is still within his probation period. That means he has no access to health benefits or long-term disability coverage, and no paid time off. He’s now off work indefinitely.
At home in Fort Frances, Marc’s wife, April, is juggling a lot—she’s studying full-time in a demanding Nurse Practitioner program while also caring for their two kids, one of whom lives with a disability. With Marc gone and no close family nearby, April is now their only source of income, support, and stability.
Why We're Asking for Help
This kind of diagnosis is hard enough emotionally. But without income, benefits, or nearby family support, the financial stress is overwhelming. They’re facing:
- Travel and temporary accommodation costs in Thunder Bay
- Medications and care not covered by provincial plans
- Lost wages
- Childcare and household expenses while April manages everything on her own
How You Can Support
Marc and his family are doing everything they can to stay strong—but they can’t do it alone. We're hoping to raise enough to ease the burden so they can focus on what matters most: his recovery, and being together again.
If you’re able to donate—thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If not, please consider sharing this fundraiser with others.
Let’s rally around Marc-André, April, and their kids. They shouldn’t have to face this fight alone.
