Marc was found facedown and unconscious in Houston, alone and far from any family. By what can only be described as a miracle, a couple (one being an off-duty first responder) happened to see him. The gentlemen searched Marc’s wallet and began calling out his name. After repeatedly calling out “Marc,” Marc sluggishly began to open his eyes. That moment, the presence of that good citizen, and the grace of God may have saved his life.

It is suspected that Marc was struck by a driver who failed to stop and render aid. The circumstances surrounding how he ended up in that condition are still unknown, but what is clear is that he was left critically injured and alone to die.

Marc was immediately rushed to the hospital. He had sustained a head injury, was placed on a ventilator, and received multiple units of blood. Imaging revealed severe spinal fractures from T8 through T12 and L1 through L2 as well as several fractured ribs, and a collapsed lungs. A 7.5 hr emergency spine surgery was performed with potentially more in the future.

As of now (06/21 afternoon), Marc has no mobility or sensation below the waist, but is now off the ventilator. He is facing an incredibly long and difficult road ahead that includes extensive medical care, intensive rehabilitation, and major life changes.

All of this is unfolding while Marc remains in Houston, without any family nearby to support him in person.
