Help Marble Get the Dental Care She Needs
Donation protected
Meet Marble, a sweet young mama cat who’s had a very tough life start on the streets of Brooklyn. Her small family moved into the stone lot across our street back around May, living in a crevasse under a shabby shed and struggling to survive.
A few of us neighbors fed this young family for a couple weeks while seeking help from rescuers. Then I received a call late one night from a neighbor that something horrible had happened on the lot. After rushing to the scene, I found one of her kittens lying immobile and crying for help. Just two days earlier, I saw this same kitten playing and chasing her siblings. We took the kitten to the emergency vet. Unfortunately, while we don't know the specifics of what happened, the injury was grave and the kitten passed that night. Many people erroneously believe cats are resilient and can live on the streets, but we've now seen firsthand that death is all too common in these parts.
By the time we were able to humanely trap Marble, two of her kittens had disappeared or passed away. With the help of professional rescuers, we’re incredibly thrilled to have trapped, neutered, and vaccinated the surviving family members - two adults and two kittens - before the lot gets developed into an 8-story residential building beginning this Fall. Because their home will be demolished, we cannot release this little family back to where they came from.
By a miracle, our team of volunteers was able to find a loving family who is interested in adopting Marble and her fellow adult companion, Pebble. Their farm will be the perfect mix of indoor/outdoor environment for them.
However, this past week Marble began showing some serious signs of dental health issues, which is not uncommon for even young cats on the streets. A trip to the vet revealed that she is in considerable pain and will need a dental procedure before she can start her new life. The dental will cost just under $1300, a cost too high for us to bear unfortunately.
This small band of volunteers would appreciate any help you can contribute towards this effort. This fundraiser will cover the cost of the procedure and aftercare. We’ve already been heartwarmed by the interest in this cat family’s plight from various neighbors and community members, and thank anyone who has helped already.
