Hello,

My name is Raza Kazmi. I am an artist and educator living in Hartford, Connecticut.

My name is Kenshi Sugita, and I am part of a group of volunteers recording audio coverage of the protests for Palestine around Tokyo. These videos are streamed on Choose Life Project.

We are reaching out to support our dear friend Maram Taiseer Muhammad al-Louh, a 24-year-old mother living in Gaza, whose family we know well. Maram and her family have endured unimaginable hardships during the ongoing siege.

Maram, her husband Ibrahim, a barber, and their two-year-old daughter Awaatef (Awatif) lived in a beautiful home in eastern Gaza City near the border. “It was a beautiful house with a balcony overlooking the agricultural lands,” Maram recalls. “My memories are beautiful. It resembled the warmth of a family.” Tragically, their home was destroyed in an airstrike at the onset of the siege.

Forced to flee south, the family endured three displacements before settling in Deir al-Balah, where they have since been displaced five more times.

On October 14, 2023, Maram and Ibrahim welcomed two orphans, Aileen and Awda, into their family. The siblings narrowly survived a bombing at their grandmother’s house, where they had been evacuated. Their mother, Alaa, and their sister, Reem, tragically did not survive.

“We heard the sound of the bombing and knew the house had been struck,” Maram recounts. “We received a call that their mother, Alaa, and sister, Reem, had been killed. Awda and Aileen were injured and taken to the hospital. When they were released, my husband brought them to our displacement site. My husband and I cared for them and tended to their wounds until they recovered. They have remained with us since then.”

Witnessing the death of their mother and sister has left Aileen and Awda with severe PTSD.

“They are living in a difficult psychological state because they lived through the incident and saw the sight of their mother martyred and the fire in the house. They have not forgotten their sister Reem—they remember her well.”

In addition to their emotional trauma, both children have serious medical needs resulting from the bombing, including burns, wounds, stitches, and embedded shrapnel.

Maram had known Aileen and Awda before the bombing, as Alaa had introduced them. Alaa hoped Awda, who struggled with anxiety, and Awaatef, an only child, would become friends. Their bond brought joy to Awaatef, who previously had no siblings to play with. Aileen, too, had always been fond of Maram, further strengthening their connection.

Now, under siege in Deir al-Balah, the family faces relentless bombardment and famine. The decimated economy has left them with no resources, and Maram’s family desperately needs help. Despite their own challenges, Maram and Ibrahim opened their hearts and home to Awda and Aileen, demonstrating extraordinary compassion.

We are raising funds to help Maram and her family meet their urgent needs, including:

Food
Clothing
Essential supplies
Tent protection against the harsh winter
Medical care for Aileen, Awda, and the rest of the family
Charitable initiatives like distributing meals to neighbors in the camp
Unforeseen costs like evacuation, relocation, and further displacement

With most aid agencies unable to operate in Gaza, we aim to send support directly to Maram. Every dollar raised will be promptly transferred to her to provide immediate relief.

Your support can make a tangible difference in the lives of Maram, Ibrahim, Awaatef, Aileen, and Awda during this harrowing time.

Thank you for your generosity.
