Help María recover loss from auto burglary

Donation protected
On Sunday, February 7th, Maria Aguirre experienced an auto burglary and the loss of her hard earned savings which she was going to use to pay rent and other necessary bills.  It's never a good time to lose money, but unfortunately, this couldn't have happened at a worse time.

María is a single mother, living in an economically challenged area of San Jose and is working two jobs earning minimum wage and working long hours. She struggles day to day to put food on the table for her and her son.  She is doing her best to raise her teenage son and keep him focused on his education.  He hopes to go to Stanford one day.

On February 7th, María had just picked up her life savings from a friend's house who was keeping the money for her until she opened a bank account for herself.  On her way home from her friend's house, María stopped at the laundromat and left the money in a small backpack underneath the car seat.  She thought this would be the best thing to do since it would be dangerous to have a large sum of money with her inside the laundromat.  Unfortunately, someone must have seen her place the bag under the car's seat and by the time she returned to her vehicle, the passenger side window was broken; the bag was gone; money, ID and more was stolen.  A police report was filed but it is unlikely that she will recover any of the stolen money.

To exacerbate her current financial hardship, she recently suffered a devastating blow when an auto mechanic took advantage of her by charging her more than $3,000 for work that never fixed her vehicle. On top of that, both she and her son were recently exposed to the COVID 19 virus, which caused her to be laid off from one of her jobs, a job she depended on to make ends meet.  She fears being evicted from her home because she may not be able to pay her rent and bills.

Needless to say, she has had one unpleasant experience after another.  She is besides herself and has turned to us for help.  If you feel it in your heart to make a small donation  to help María get back on her feet, she and her son will forever be grateful.  Any amount is appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration.
