Help Mara get walking again!

On August 21st, Mara was a passenger in a car that hit a concrete wall. She was transported from the accident scene to the trauma ward of a hospital in Belgrade, Serbia.

Mara sustained a fractured neck, two broken ankles, one crushed foot, a broken femur and fractured ribs. She was in the hospital in Belgrade for three weeks. During that time, she had two unsuccessful surgeries performed and multiple infection sites that further complicated her medical condition.

With the tireless effort of her mom and the unbelievable support from her employer, Mara was airlifted back to the San Francisco Bay Area on September 9th. Upon arrival at Marin Hospital, Mara was septic at life-threatening levels, and blood clots blocked the circulation in her left leg.

With seven weeks of hospitalization behind her, Mara has now had ten surgeries to remove blood clots, fix the unsuccessful surgeries she had in Serbia and put her broken bones back together as best as possible. She will now begin the long road of rehabilitation to get back on her feet and learn to walk with her new limitations. The injuries she sustained will have life-long effects.

Mara has months of physical therapy ahead of her and will have extensive medical bills as she completes her journey back to wellness and mobility.

The money raised will go toward payment of the life-saving airlift home, which exceeded the maximum insurance coverage by $65,000, and the multitude of medical, transportation and physical therapy expenses that Mara faces ahead.

Thank you for all the love and support. We cannot express how grateful we are.
