Hi everyone!

My name is Manuela, and I’m reaching out for support during a very difficult moment. On October 20th, after having temporarily moved to Colombia, I had an accident during a training session at a climbing gym, which resulted in a serious knee injury.

I broke the ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament), tore the meniscus, and partially tore the LCL (Lateral Collateral Ligament) of my left knee. Since then, I’ve been dealing with pain, limited mobility, and the emotional stress of not knowing when I’ll finally receive the treatment I need.

In Colombia, the waiting times through the public insurance system (EPS) are extremely long. Even though the accident happened almost two months ago, I still haven’t been able to schedule a date for surgery, and I am being told that the process can take months before getting a date. Meanwhile, I need timely surgical repair to reconstruct my knee and avoid complications and long-term damage.

This situation is especially urgent because I was planning to return to Vienna next year, where I wanted to pursue doctoral studies. Without proper medical treatment soon, that plan may no longer be possible. I was told that the rehabilitation time after surgery will take about 9 months to come back to doing sports and about a year to come back to climbing, and the longer it passes, the more time it'll take for my knee to come back to normal.

The surgery, rehabilitation, and related medical costs are beyond what I can cover on my own. This is why I’m reaching out to friends and all the communities I know asking for help. The cost of the surgery is around 7,000 eur (approximately 30,000,000 COP), and all post-surgical treatment (including hospitalization fees, medical appointments, and physical therapy) can round out to 5,000 eur (about 20,000,000 COP) for a period of 9 months.

Any contribution, no matter how small, can bring me closer to getting the care I need and recovering my ability to walk, move, do sports, and live normally again. I am a very active person and I miss exercising and climbing a lot. I want to be able to do these again and I hope that with your support I can get back into moving faster!

Mi nombre es Manuela y estoy buscando apoyo en un momento muy difícil. El 20 de octubre, después de haberme mudado temporalmente a Colombia, tuve un accidente durante un entrenamiento de escalada que resultó en una lesión grave en mi rodilla izquierda.

Me rompí el ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA), el menisco y tuve un desgarro parcial del ligamento colateral lateral (LCL) de la rodilla. Desde entonces he estado lidiando con dolor, movilidad reducida y el estrés emocional de no saber cuándo recibiré el tratamiento que necesito.

En Colombia, los tiempos de espera a través del plan contributivo de salud (EPS) son extremadamente largos. Aunque el accidente ocurrió hace casi dos meses, todavía no he podido obtener una fecha para la cirugía y me han dicho que el proceso puede tardar meses. Mientras tanto, necesito una intervención quirúrgica para reconstruir mi rodilla y evitar complicaciones o daños a largo plazo.

Esta situación es especialmente urgente porque yo planeaba regresar a Viena, Austria, el próximo año para continuar con mis estudios de doctorado. Sin un pronto tratamiento adecuado, ese plan podría no ser posible. Me indicaron que la rehabilitación desde que se realice la cirugía tomará alrededor de 9 meses para volver a hacer deporte y aproximadamente un año para volver a escalar. Cuanto más tiempo pase sin cirugía, más se prolongará el tiempo de recuperación y más difícil será volver a la normalidad.

La cirugía, la rehabilitación y los costos médicos relacionados superan lo que puedo cubrir por mi cuenta. Por esto estoy pidiendo ayuda a mis amigos y a todas las comunidades que conozco. El costo de la cirugía es de aproximadamente 7.000 euros (alrededor de 30.000.000 COP) y todo el tratamiento de rehabilitación post-quirúrgico (incluyendo hospitalización, citas médicas y fisioterapia por un periodo de 9 meses) puede sumar alrededor de 5.000 euros (aproximadamente 20.000.000 COP).

Cualquier donación, sin importar el valor, me puede acercar a recibir la atención que necesito y recuperar mi capacidad de caminar, moverme, hacer deporte y vivir con normalidad nuevamente. Soy una persona muy activa y extraño mucho hacer ejercicio y escalar. Mi meta es poder volver a hacerlo y espero que con su apoyo pueda recuperarme prontamente.
