Help Manuel Sanchez Heal After a Devastating Accident

On October 3rd, our sweet and spirited nephew Manuel Sanchez—just 13 years old—was struck by a DUI driver while riding his bike. What should have been a carefree afternoon turned into a nightmare that changed his life in an instant.

Manuel is now in the hospital, bravely fighting through a long list of painful injuries. He has a broken tibia and a broken arm, both requiring surgery. Doctors are still reviewing his x-rays to assess any and all additional fractures, and every hour brings new updates.

The most serious damage is in his abdomen. Manuel has a lacerated liver, laceration to his kidney, internal bleeding in his stomach, injury to his small intestine, and a severely injured spleen that will likely need to be removed. His lungs are bruised, and he’s currently on a breathing tube to help ease the strain on his body while he heals. Surgery is coming, but doctors are waiting until he’s stable enough to endure it.

Despite all this, Manuel is showing incredible strength. He’s moved his foot and arm, and his vitals are stable. He’s sedated to manage the pain, but we know he’s still with us—fighting, holding on, and showing us just how resilient he is.

We’re asking for your help as Manuel begins what will be a long and difficult journey to recovery. Donations will go toward his medical care, surgeries, rehabilitation, and the support our family needs to stay by his side every step of the way. Manuel is a bright, kind-hearted boy who lights up every room he enters. He loves biking, hanging out with friends, laughing with his cousins, playing on his PlayStation, and most importantly, helping his mom with caring for his younger siblings.
