Two months ago, our dear friend Manuel Chavez’s life changed in an instant. He began experiencing aggressive, recurring seizures that landed him in the hospital. Doctors discovered swelling in his brain, which was causing the seizures and severely impacting his ability to move, speak, and communicate.
After a series of tests, including a brain biopsy, Manuel was diagnosed with early-stage leukemia that had spread to his central nervous system. This means cancer cells that began in his blood and bone marrow had also reached the brain, causing inflammation and neurological symptoms.
Manuel’s ability to walk, talk, and express himself has been significantly impaired, but he is determined to fight through this. After spending weeks in the hospital, Manuel has now returned home on 08/13/2025, where he will continue his chemotherapy treatments and work hard in rehabilitation to regain his strength and independence.

The good news is that the chemo is working — the swelling is going down, his seizures are under better control, and his medical team is hopeful for his recovery. But the road ahead will be long, involving ongoing chemo, physical therapy, and daily support from family and friends.
His primary caretaker is Rosie Chavez, Manuel’s grandmother, who has been by his side in the hospital every single day, providing as much love and support as possible.
The cost of Manuel’s ongoing bills, daily living expenses, and the loss of income due to his inability to work have placed a heavy financial burden on him and his family.
Your donation — no matter the size — will go directly toward Manuel’s medical care, rehabilitation, and essential living expenses. If you’re unable to give financially, sharing this page and sending words of encouragement will mean the world to him.
